Welcome to the Nentir Vale!

Up until four centuries ago, the Nentir Vale was a thinly settled borderland, home to quarrelsome human hill-chieftains and remote realms of nonhumans such as dwarves and elves. Giants, minotaurs, orcs, ogres, and goblins plagued the area. Some ruins such as those on the Gray Downs or the ring-forts atop the Old Hills date back to these days.

With the rise of the empire of Nerath to the south, human settlers began to move up the Nentir, establishing towns such as Winterhaven and those of the Harkenwold. The town of Fallcrest was founded three hundred years ago and quickly rose to prominence over the rest of the vale and the region enjoyed a period of peace and profit along with the rest of Nerath.

About a century ago all that changed. The empire of Nerath began to fracture and crumble through civil war and invasions by various nonhumans. The Nentir Vale was not spared from this catastrophe when ninety years ago a fierce horde of orcs known as the Bloodspears descended from the Stonemarch and swept through the vale. Fallcrest’s army was defeated attempting to halt the orcs at the Gardbury Downs and with nothing else standing in their way, the orcs pillaged Fallcrest and wrecked havoc across the Nentir Vale.

In the decades since the Bloodspear War, the Nentir Vale has struggled to regroup. Fallcrest is a a shadow of the former city and the countryside is dotted with abandoned homesteads and manors from the days of Nerath. Once again the Nentir Vale is a thinly settled borderland where few folk live. This is a place in need of a few heroes.
